The two main reasons why college admissions officials require an admission essay is because they want to know if your values and goals match the school's mission and because they seek students that stand out from the thousands of other applicants. You will need to determine based on your goals and past accomplishments why you should be chosen as a student and you want to go beyond just the good grades and clubs you joined while an undergrad. For example, if the college you're applying to is focused on producing graduates who are committed to social justice and environmentalism, you would demonstrate ways that you exhibited these values prior to applying to this school.
Add Intriguing Details to The Essay
Don't bore the admissions officials with a boring and generic account of yourself but instead write details that are unique and eye-catching. If your concern for a lack of biblical literacy motivates you to enter the college's theology program, you can discuss the latest surveys which state that some Christians are unsure about what the Bible teaches on important issues such as childbearing, salvation and forgiveness, sanctification and you can also talk about how your biblical illiteracy caused you to not be able to defend your beliefs to others. Finally, mention that your long-term goal as a future pastor is to help congregations know what they believe as Christians.
Understand The Questions That Officials Ask
Before you begin your essay you must look at each question carefully to make sure you understand what you are being asked. If there is a question that says “Who is the person that inspired you the most and how did he shape your character?” and you state that your father is the one who shaped your character the most, mention the trips you and your father took to local homeless shelters on weekends and how this taught you how to show empathy when hearing about the lives of the unfortunate.
Show That You Should Be Accepted
You don't want to simply say that you are a hardworking individual but in the essay you need to give relevant examples of how you worked hard. For example, if as the leader of your Girl Scouts troop you assisted with the raising of $125,000 in donations of school supplies for local schools, talk about how this prepared you for a career in nonprofit organization leadership. Or if you know the school strives to create students who possess strong analytical skills, give examples of how you used these skills in your past experiences.
